How to Save Money on Heating This Winter

The Canadian winter will soon be upon us, and anyone who has been through it before knows that it isn’t kind. Luckily we have home heating to help us fend off the chill. Without it, we would be without hope against the cold depths of winter. It comes with costs though, and knowing how to save money on heating this winter can help you protect your home from the cold and your bank account from the cruel wrath of home heating bills.

Don’t heat the whole house

Most people don’t even realize it, but we usually use so little of our total space in the home. Not only are we always out and about, but even when we are home we normally only use certain spaces. Think about how often you are in your bedroom as compared to, say, the laundry room, bathroom, or kitchen. Consider keeping your home at a livable temperature, and then using a space heater in the other rooms when you want them to be warm. This has proven to save homeowners upwards of a hundred dollars or more each year.

Consider energy-saving windows

It might seem like a big expense to have all of your windows replaced, but when you realize that energy-saving windows can save you a ton of money over the course of the year, you see that it is well worth it. Not only are they great for the winter to trap heat in, but they also work for the summer if you want to keep cool air in. You get the best of both worlds, and they are very affordable.

Use your blinds properly

During the day you can keep the blinds open to let the sun in and try to heat the place up naturally. This is especially good when you are not home. Sure the house might be a little cooler than you’d like when you get home, but it’ll warm up quickly. Also, keep the blinds closed at night to try and keep the warmth in. This will help stop it from seeping out the windows.

Having a warm home is essential in the winter, but high heating bills are not. There are some tips and tricks that we have learned over the years to help you save money on your heating bills this winter. Who better to trust than the local area’s HVAC experts?
